COMMUNICATIVE ACTIVITES

1- Twenty Questions: What Room Is It?

A student thinks of a room: bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room, classroom...

Others ask:

“Is there a bed?”
“Are there any chairs?”
“Is there a fridge?”
“Are there any computers?”

PLACES: Bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room, classroom, school library, school playground, school canteen, gym, supermarket, restaurant, cinema, hospital, airport, train station, beach, park, zoo, farm, swimming pool, football stadium, museum, shopping centre, hotel, toy shop, bakery, pet shop, amusement park, castle, space station.

2- The Crazy Bedroom 😂

One student starts:

“In my crazy bedroom, there’s a swimming pool.”

Next student adds something:

“There’s a swimming pool and there’s an elephant.”

Continue:

“There’s a swimming pool, there’s an elephant and there are some robots.”

If somebody forgets an object, they're out. This practises there is / there are + a/an/some naturally.

3- Change Places If…

Time: 5–8 minutes | Whole class

Students stand in a circle. One student says:

Change places if there are some posters in your bedroom!

Everybody for whom the statement is true must change places.

Other possibilities:

  • Change places if there's a mirror in your bedroom.

  • Change places if there are some toys under your bed.

  • Change places if there aren't any plants in your bedroom.

The student who is left without a place says the next sentence

4- Plan a Birthday Party (15 minutes)

Students work in groups of three or four. They are organising a birthday party and must decide what food and drinks to buy.

Write these questions on the board:

  • Have we got any drinks?

  • Have we got a birthday cake?

  • Have we got any crisps?

  • Have we got an orange juice carton?

  • Do we need any sandwiches?

Example:

A: We've got some lemonade, but we haven't got any water.

B: We need some water!

C: Have we got a cake?

A: No, we haven't got a cake.

At the end, each group tells the class what they need to buy.
